Bridal dresses / Ball gown dresses

It’s very rare for a dress to fit perfectly. Most brides have to take their wedding dress for alterations to ensure that the length and fit is ideal.

Various factors come into play: multiple-layers, linings, and differences in garment construction, including corsets and additional embellishments, can add considerably to time and cost. This is not necessarily because the alteration is more difficult, sometimes it is just more time consuming. Shortening a wedding dress can be a straightforward, as long as a dress has one layer finished off by a machine stitch. Most bridal garments move gracefully because they are designed using multiple layers of alternating fabrics like Lace, Satin, Silk, Taffeta, Chiffon, Organza, Tulle, Veiling.

How much we have to take in, how far down the skirt, how many layers there are to take in and how complicated the dress construction is. As an example, shortening a hem will not always be one standard price and will depend on how many inches have to be raised. For example, 1” – 2 “ would be one price whereas 4″- 6″ could be more expensive as the dress may have to be tapered, fitted to the train or adjusted all the way around. However. I can tell you the exact price at the time of the first fitting, after your dress has been fitted, pinned and we can see how much work is required.

The average cost of bridal alterations is between £150.00 – £350.00 which would include straps, bodice and hem.
Most of the valuation  is about £250
Adding things like, straps, sleeves, corsets, cups, structure such as extra boning, bustles, heavily detailed with lace and beads and requires lots of unpicking and hand stitching then it can be more expensive.
